About Rolls Royce

Brand Rolls Royce and History

Rolls Royce is a British car manufacturer of the absolute top class. Based in Westhampnett, UK, the traditional company was founded in 1884 by Frederick Henry Royce as an electric car company. It was not until 1904 that Henry Royce produced his first motor vehicle, the prototype Royce 10hp. Shortly thereafter, Henry Royce and Charles Rolls, a car dealer at the time, met. Rolls was looking for a British automobile brand that he could put on sale. This was the time when the Royce 10 hp went into mass production under the name Rolls-Royce 10 hp.

After the Second World War, production was moved to Crewe, where famous models such as the Silver Wraith and the Silver Dawn were launched. General Motors supplied an automatic Hydramatic transmission on request. Rolls-Royce was thus able to resume series production of high-quality cars.

In 1971, Rolls-Royce went bankrupt due to a bad investment in the production of a three-shaft engine and could only be saved by the British state. After the engine manufacturer was privatized in 1987, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars was outbid by the Volkswagen Group and went to the German automaker for 1.44 billion marks. However, BMW had secured the rights to the Rolls-Royce brand in an adventurous process and a "trademark loophole". This ultimately resulted in VW spinning off Bentley and keeping it, while Rolls-Royce was transferred to BMW along with the rights to the radiator mascot Emily.

Rolls-Royce stands for the absolutely luxurious and outstanding British automobile like no other brand. Handmade vehicles with noblest interior and materials convince everyone, who has the possibility to drive in a Rolls-Royce once. Rolls-Royce offers not only the sedan Ghost or the coupe Wraith, but also the flagship Phantom or the convertible Dawn. In 2018, a Rolls-Royce SUV was added for the first time in the form of the Cullinan, which generated enormous demand for the entire model range and brought record sales in 2022.
