«Silvretta-Hochalpenstrasse» Sportscar Tour

One of the most beautiful panoramic road car tours in the Austrian Alps can be experienced on the "Silvretta-Hochalpenstrasse" car tour. However, this road trip is only possible in the warmer months - usually from May to autumn - because the road is closed in the colder months. For motor vehicles, you have to pay a small fee (toll) to drive on the Silvretta-Hochalpenstrasse, as it is a toll road. But the investment is worth it: the "Silvretta-Hochalpenstrasse" is also known as the "dream road of the Alps for connoisseurs".

The pure driving time on the road trip "Silvretta-Hochalpenstrasse" is about 30 minutes. However, there are several stops that you should make for their spectacular views. We recommend driving the "Silvretta-Hochalpenstrasse" in the following stages, for example in a sports car such as a Ferrari or Porsche, a convertible from Mercedes or BMW, or a classic car.

1. Part: Toll Station Partenen - Viewpoint Kehre 22/23

The first stage goes from the Partenen toll station in the Montafon valley to the viewpoint between Kehre 22 and Kehre 23, from where you have a great view of the valley.

2. Part: Viewpopint Kehre 22/23 - Mountain Pass Bielerhöhe

Continue from the viewpoint between Kehre 22 and 23 up to the Bielerhöhe pass at an altitude of 2037 meters. It is also the highest point on the "Silvretta-Hochalpenstrasse", the location of several restaurants and the Silvretta reservoir.

3. Part: Mountain Pass Bielerhöhe - Toll Station Galtür

The last stage leads from the Bielerhöhe to the Galtür toll station in the Paznaun Valley, with only two hairpin bends left on this trip. From the Galtür toll station to the village of Galtür it is still about four kilometers.

In the following summary you will find the most important route information for the "Silvretta-Hochalpenstrasse" sportscar tour:

  • Start: Toll Station Partenen
  • End: Toll Station Galtür
  • Route: approx. 22 kilometres

«Grossglockner-Hochalpenstrasse» Roadtrip

Another dream road for a road trip in Austria is the "Grossglockner-Hochalpenstrasse". The road connects the Austrian states of Carinthia and Salzburg and is subject to tolls. The "Grossglockner-Hochalpenstrasse" is the highest mountain pass road in Austria which is paved. The route is usually open only from the beginning of May to the end of October. The pure driving time on the "Grossglockner-Hochalpenstrasse" is relatively short with about 1.5 hours. But in view of the many sights, you should make a few stops and thus allow more time.

We recommend the following stages for the sportscar tour on the "Grossglockner-Hochalpenstrasse":

1. Part: Bruck at the Grossglocknerstrasse - Fuscher Törl

The first stage goes from Bruck at the Grossglocknerstrasse to the first pass on the route, namely the Fuscher Törl at 2428 meters above sea level. From this pass you have a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains.

2. Part: Fuscher Törl - Hochtor

From the Fuscher Törl we go to the next pass, the Hochtor at 2504 meters above sea level. Just after the tunnel you can stop and enjoy a completely new panorama in the direction of the Carinthian peaks.

3. Part: Hochtor - Heiligenblut at Grossglockner

The last stage goes from the Hochtor to Heiligenblut at Grossglockner, unless you want to make a detour to the Emperor-Franz-Josefs-Höhe, which can be reached on the way to Heiligenblut by turning into a side road. From the Empreor-Franz-Josefs-Höhe at an altitude of 2369 meters you have a great view of the largest glacier in Austria, the Pasterze.
